For Day Two of our Christmas Advent Calendar we’re meeting the family of Gracie Jones.
Gracie was a patient of Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital who was diagnosed with Aveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma, a very rare cancer, shortly after her third birthday. Initially Gracie’s treatment went really well and she was able to leave hospital and spend a year cancer free at her home in Boothstown. But sadly the cancer returned when Gracie was four-and-a-half years old and in June 2017 she passed away, aged six.
Her mum Caroline Hart, dad John Jones and brother Freddie (with special guest appearance from Henry the dog!) talk about Gracie and how the family like to spend Christmas honouring this amazing little lady who loved nothing more than singing songs, dancing round the living room and making people smile.
Gracie’s happy character and outgoing personality will never be forgotten. Her family and friends have been avid supporters of our Charity and have raised well over £75,000, all in Gracie’s memory.
Gracie’s family told us the number 22 was very special to her, so we made her Day Two to make sure she gets the limelight she deserves.
All our bereaved families are very special to us and we know for many of them Christmas can be a time of very mixed emotions. We felt strongly they should be included in our Advent Calendar and hope you enjoy today’s video.
Please check back tomorrow for Day Three when we share an adult patient story with you from Wythenshawe Hospital.
